I’ve been dreaming of maternity photos in Brownsville for a while now, so glad to have worked with Anais for this session.

Maternity Session at Brownsville’s Linear Park

There is something special about watching cousins and childhood friends become first time mothers and even more special to be able to capture those moments for them. Perhaps it has something to do with sharing a past, sharing memories, that really allows you to appreciate how far you’ve both come and the stage you’re currently experiencing in life. Never in a million years did I imagine that one day I’d be walking along the streets of Brownsville, my hometown, talking about motherhood and family with one of my childhood friends during her maternity session.

When I think of my childhood, Anais is always in those memories. Her and her family lived next to my grandmother’s home in Mexico and grew up as part of our extended family. Some of my favorite memories are playing with her and my cousins, going to church retreats together, and being a cathechist at the neighborhood church for the preschool group. Fast forward a whole lot of years later and I get to photograph this gorgeous beauty.

Anais had a long and diffucult journey to motherhood, but beautiful nonetheless. After years of praying to become a mother, she found out she was pregnant on a special day for her, the day of the Celebration of the Virgen Maria, a popular Catholic feast especially in Mexico. She decided to name her daughter Grettel de Maria. I’ve never heard a more beautiful story and I love the meaning behind her little one’s name. What a beautiful story to share with her daughter one day.

Anais, you were a joy to photograph. I enjoyed our time together, capturing your beauty and these beautiful memories for you and your family. Loved documenting this special time for you.

This was one of my favorite sessions of 2019 and of course it was going to be one of the first I blogged on my new site. So excited I get to share these beautiful portraits of my gorgoues friend with the world now.
