5 Reasons to have a Cake Smash Session

So many fun sessions in San Antonio, but Cake Smash Sessions are seriously some of my favorite – even if it means I’ll have a lot of cleaning up to do afterwards. I’ll gladly do it to capture your little ones first year milestone. Here are 5 reasons why you should celebrate your child’s first birthday with a cake smash.

1. It’s their first birthday ever!

Your baby just turned ONE, HOORAY! If you’re like me and love celebrations too, then you probably celebrated every month of your baby’s precious life. You bought a cupcake, candles, and even a party hat and had an in-home mini photo session with your cell phone, because why not? So why woudn’t you do a 1st Birthday Cake Smash Session with their first birthday cake as the cherry on top to all those monthly in-home sessions?

2. You BOTH made it! Yes, we’re celebrating you too!

We know the first months are hard which is why the first birthday is such an accomplisment. The first year for mom and dad are always filled with countless sleepless nights, a ton of diaper changes, and many worries, but guess what, you DID IT! Which is why this is also a celebration for you, the parents! Don’t forget to sneak in a quick photo with the birthday boy or girl too, preferably before the cake gets smashed! Nothing says “let’s celebrate” better than cake!

3. It’s the perfect age to update portraits.

By this age your baby now walks or stands on their own, sits up, loves to play peek-a-boo, has those adorable belly laughs you die for and can’t hear a good beat without dancing. Why not do a session just for them to showcase all their new talents? Even if you’ve done a milestone session at either 6 or 9 months, chances are that by 1 year they’re doing so much more. Let’s document that, right?

4. There’s so much you can do with these photos if planned correctly.

Pro Tip: You can use these photos for their 1st Birthday Celebration. Depending on when you schedule your portraits and when the party is planned for, you could use the images for the invitation, as part of the decor (either displayed on the gift table or as part of the table centerpieces) or you could use it to print Thank You Cards to send out to party guests.

5. Everyone is doing it…

Probably not the most convincing reason, BUT when else will you get to see little toesies covered in icing and cake? Never, really. Everyone is doing it for a reason, it is super cute to do so and it makes for the cutest photos. Plus, add some splash time in a mini bathtub at the end of the shoot, for easier clean up and more baby smiles, and you’ll have the most adorable of photos. You’ll love your baby’s photos and will be so glad you decided to do a cake smash session, promise!
